13-year-old Ukrainian champion to fight against twenty motorcycle racers for the 2019 title.
The 13-year-old Ukrainian motorcycle racer Maksim Kovalov will take part for the first time in the international racing series ADAC Junior Cup powered by KTM. The German championship includes six stages in Germany, Holland, Czech Republic, as well as a training weekend in Italy. The main objective of the Cup is to help talented young pilots to get into a senior German championship, and then into the world championship.
The ADAC Junior Cup has been a springboard for numerous famous motorcycle racers, among whom is the successful Swiss pilot – world champion of the 125cc class – Thomas Lüthi, who has 16 wins and 58 podiums in the world championship. For Maksim, this is not the first competition abroad, but the first major start on the new KTM RC 390 motorcycle.
Maksim Kovalov #93: “It will be the first championship in my career on a bike from this class and on the best tracks in the world. I can’t wait to go to the training tests in Italy and try out my bike. I promise to fight for the maximum result and show result of work with my coach, Pavel Kalinin (father and coach of Nick Kalinin, WorldSSP300 rider).”
The youngster from Odessa is a triple supermoto champion of Ukraine in his age category and the winner of the amateur class. Kovalov has also achieved podiums in the supermoto championship of the Baltic countries. Maksim will compete with 20 motorcycle racers from Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and Ukraine. Amongst them are experienced racers of the championship who will fight for victory for the second year in a row, and are now rookies of larger competitions. Further motivation for the championship is the opportunity to neighbor those competing in larger championships: The ADAC Junior Cup 2019 competition will be held, depending on the weekend, along with the most prestigious senior racing championships, such as MotoGP, the British Superbike and the German IDM championship.
