Maverick Vinales has ended the opening day of testing in Qatar on top setting the time of 1:55.051 with Rins and Dovizioso rounding out the top 3.
Monster Energy Yamaha have opened up their Qatar test account in the best way possible with Maverick Vinales topping the opening test session under the floodlights at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.
Alex Rins and Suzuki are once again among the front runners after a good 3 days a few weeks ago in Sepang, Rins was just 0.108s behind his fellow Spaniard whilst Andrea Dovizioso and Sepang test topper Danilo Petrucci rounding out the top 4 for Ducati.
Just turned 40-year-old Valentino Rossi rounded out the top 5 0.553s behind his teammate Maverick Vinales as preparations continue for the Italian as he hopes to launch the attack on title number 10.
Tito Rabat returned to the front in Qatar ending the day in 6th position in a solid opening day of test action in the desert. An impressive day for the Petronas Yamaha SRT team saw Fabio Quartararo complete the top 7 with Takaaki Nakagami, Espargaro and Marc Marquez rounding out the top 10, despite a fall earlier in the test.
Joan Mir finished 11th spot on his 4th day on the 2019 Suzuki whilst the two Aprilia’s of Aleix Espargaro and Andrea Iannone close behind the Spaniard.
The top rookie from the Sepang Test, Francesco Bagnaia rounded out the top 15 whilst the two KTM’s of Factory KTM Johann Zarco and Tech 3 Red Bull KTM of Miguel Oliveira in 16th and 17th.
Crutchlow ended the opening day of testing down in 18th place as he continues to recover from the nasty ankle break the Brit suffered back in October at Phillip Island.
Miller completed the opening day of testing in 19th with Abraham rounding out the top 20. Returning Repsol Honda rider Jorge Lorenzo completed his first 38 laps on his 2019 RC213V but ended the day in 21st.
Aprilia’s test rider Bradley Smith was on typical test duty resulting in the 2019 MotoE World Cup rider to settle for 22nd ahead of Hafizh Syahrin who completed the timesheets on his Red Bull KTM.
