Defending world champion starts where he ended last season, but main spotlight was taken by Ducati, who debuted new V4 in full Superbike trim.
In what was very exciting day 1 of first preseason test for 2019 World Superbike season, it was Kawasaki’s reigning champion Jonathan Rea who was the happiest, as he set the fastest time of the day. He completed 72 laps, during which various setting were tried to find the best direction to be as competitive as possible onboard brand new Kawasaki ZX-10RR. His new team mate Leon Haslam spent the day working on getting first kilometers on board and trying setting solutions, completing 67 laps, while setting fourth best time of the day.
At Ducati, Aruba Ducati rider Chaz Davies spent the day trying to understand his new machine, as Ducati officially presented bran new Panigale V4 R, achieving some fantastic first impressions during 61 laps completed today, while setting third fastest lap of the day. He was joined on the other side of the garage by Barni Ducati rider Michael Rinaldi, who worked with Aruba and his own Barni crew, getting used to brand new bike and completing 74 laps over the day.
At Yamaha, a lot of work was completed by factory duo of Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark, as they spent the day evaluating new chassis parts, while also working on suspension with Ohlins technicians and trying some new electronics hardware. Both riders set second and sixth time of the day, putting 76 and 72 laps respectively.
