13th race win of the season was enough for Kawasaki rider to get 2018 title with 5 races to go.
Even though Jonathan Rea managed to win the race in typically dominant fashion as many races before during the season, it was his team mate Tom Sykes that got the best start. His lead didn’t last long, as Rea overtook him at the start of lap 2 and didn’t look back for the remaining 19 laps, even trading lap records with his team mate, before finally breaking him and winning comfortably by 3 seconds in the end. Barni Ducati rider Xavi Fores was distant third, eight seconds behind Rea, winning three way scrap for final podium position against Milwaukee Aprilia rider Lorenzo Savadori and Barni Ducati rider Chaz Davies, with his team mate Marco Melandri recovering from disaster in qualifying to finish behind him in sixth.
Best Yamaha in race 1 was Michael van der Mark, who finished seventh, while his team mate Alex Lowes crashed early, but picked the bike up and finished the race in 18th and last position. Behind van der Mark was Puccetti Kawasaki rider Toprak Razgatlioglu, who managed to took eight position at the line, beating Eugene Laverty’s Aprilia and Loris Baz’s BMW in a three way scrap, as Baz rounded up top 10. Red Bull Honda’s Leon Camier was the best Honda in 11th position, comfortably ahead of MV Agusta of Jordi Torres and other Red Bull Honda of Jake Gagne, who finished in 13th position, while Orelac Kawasaki rider Leandro Mercado and GoEleven Kawasaki rider Roman Ramos completed points scorers. TripleM Honda of PJ Jacobsen and Pedercini Kawasaki of Jeremy Guarnoni finished just outside of points in 16th and 17th position and comfortably ahead of Lowes. Aruba junior rider Michael Rinaldi, Guandalini Yamaha rider Jakub Smrz and Dreamteamcompany Aprilia rider Matthieu Lussiana were the only riders not finishing the race.
