FIM EWC: Sepang joins World Endurance championship calendar from 2019

It was confirmed today that Sepang International Circuit will join EWC championship from 2019 season onwards.

Announcement came from Sepang CEO Razlan Razali, who confirmed that 8-hour event will happen in December 2019 and will serve as a qualifying roundfor Japanese and Asian teams for Endurance racing most prestigious event in a bid to persuade full factory teams and bikes to participate more often that just Suzuka race.

Event itself will fill the void that was left after the track owners decided not to extend their contract to host Formula 1 race. What is more surprising is the way the event was picked, as SIC conducted a 3 month public survey, where fans decided which event the track should host to replace outgoing Formula One.

This move could also mean that Sepang International Circuit racing team will participate the race, at least in first edition next year, as Mr Razali expressed his desire of seeing it happen.
