It was confirmed that Leon Haslam will join current World SBK points leader and three time defending world champion Jonathan Rea in Kawasaki racing team for 2019 season.
For 35-year old Briton Haslam it will be a welcome full time return to World Superbike paddock next year, where he contested his last full time season as a part of Red Devils Aprilia team in 2015. Having joined the class first time back in 2004, when he was part of Renegade Ducati squad, he achieved the most success from 2009 to 2015, scoring 5 wins and 39 podiums during those seasons.
Having ridden Honda, Suzuki, Aprilia, BMW, Ducati and Kawasaki on world stage, Leon’s experience can help the team to get even better and stay the dominant force in WSBK. Haslam has been a part of Kawasaki family since start of 2016 season, riding in British Superbikes paddock, where he currently leads the championship by 80 points.
This move also won’t be the first time Rea and Haslam will be team mates, having been team mates previously during 2013 and 2014 seasons in World Superbikes, where both have been riding for PATA Honda squad. Both riders will also contest 2018 Suzuka 8H race alongside Kazuma Watanabe for Team Green Kawasaki, which represents official factory Kawasaki team for the event.
